About these terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the CyberX8T website and learning platform, including courses, quizzes, certificates, messaging and the AI tutor (together, the "Platform"), operated by CyberX8T of Kampala, Uganda ("CyberX8T", "we", "us").
By creating an account or using the Platform you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you use the Platform on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to accept these Terms for it. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.
Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old, or use the Platform with the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian (for example through a school programme).
- Give accurate information when you register and keep it up to date. The name on your account is the name printed on your certificates.
- Accounts are personal. Do not share your password or let anyone else use your account.
- Keep your credentials secure and tell us immediately at hello@cyberx8t.com if you suspect unauthorised use.
- You are responsible for activity on your account unless it results from our failure to take reasonable security measures.
Acceptable use
Our courses teach offensive security techniques so that you can defend systems. With that knowledge comes responsibility.
Authorisation is mandatory. You must never use techniques, tools, code or knowledge from our courses, the AI tutor or our materials against any system, network, application, device, account or person unless you have explicit, written authorisation from its owner that covers the activity. Unauthorised access and interference with computer systems are offences under Uganda's Computer Misuse Act, 2011 and similar laws in other countries. Practise only on systems you own or on lab environments provided for that purpose.
You also agree not to:
- attack, probe, scan or test the security of the Platform itself without our prior written permission (see "Reporting vulnerabilities" below);
- attempt to access accounts, data or areas of the Platform you are not authorised to use;
- disrupt or overload the Platform, or bypass rate limits or other security controls;
- scrape, copy or redistribute course content, quizzes or answers, or use automated means to access the Platform;
- cheat on quizzes, share answers, or misrepresent your achievements or certificates;
- use the AI tutor to try to obtain harmful instructions, or to generate content unrelated to learning;
- upload or send unlawful, abusive, defamatory, infringing or malicious content; or
- impersonate anyone or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or organisation.
Reporting vulnerabilities. If you believe you have found a security vulnerability in the Platform, please report it privately to hello@cyberx8t.com with enough detail for us to reproduce it. Do not access or modify other users' data, degrade the service or disclose the issue publicly before we have had a reasonable opportunity to fix it. We will not pursue action against good-faith reports that follow these rules.
Courses and learning content
- When you enrol in a course we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access its content for your own learning. Organisations that buy training for staff receive the access set out in their agreement.
- We may update, reorganise or retire course content to keep it accurate and relevant. If a course you are enrolled in is retired, we will give reasonable notice where practical.
- Course content is educational. It describes common practice at the time of writing and may not suit every environment; apply it with professional judgement.
The AI tutor
The AI tutor uses artificial intelligence to answer questions about course material. You understand and agree that:
- Answers may be inaccurate, incomplete or out of date. The tutor draws on course material and shows its sources, but it can still make mistakes. Check important information against the lessons and other reliable sources.
- It is not professional advice. Tutor answers are not legal, compliance, security-consulting or other professional advice, and must not be relied on as a substitute for it.
- It is limited to cybersecurity learning. It may decline questions outside that scope, and it will not help with activities that lack authorisation.
- Do not share sensitive information such as passwords, personal data of others or confidential client or employer information.
- Availability may vary. The tutor may be limited, rate-limited or unavailable at times, and is provided without guarantee of any particular result.
How tutor conversations are handled is described in our Privacy Policy.
Quizzes and certificates
- A certificate of completion becomes available when you have completed every lesson and passed every module quiz in a course. Each certificate has a unique code that anyone can check on our verification page.
- Certificates confirm that you completed a CyberX8T course. They are not a professional licence, a regulated qualification or accreditation, and they do not authorise you to test any system.
- We may withdraw a certificate, and suspend the related account, if it was obtained through cheating, account sharing or other misconduct, or was issued in error.
Reviews, messages and your content
You keep ownership of the reviews, messages and other content you submit. You grant CyberX8T a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display and use that content to operate and improve the Platform – for example, showing your course review publicly with a shortened version of your name.
You are responsible for your content and confirm that it is honest, lawful and yours to share. We may moderate or remove content that breaks these Terms.
Intellectual property
The Platform and its content – including courses, videos, text, quizzes, graphics, software and the CyberX8T name and logo – belong to CyberX8T or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. Except for the licence in these Terms, no rights are transferred to you.
You may not copy, reproduce, sell, sublicense, publish or create derivative works from Platform content without our written permission, except as permitted by law (for example, brief quotations with attribution).
Paid courses and payments
Some courses are free and others are marked as paid. Online payments are not live yet: checkout, including Mobile Money and card payments, is planned for a future release. Until then, no payment can be taken through the Platform and any "buy" action shows a notice instead.
Before payments launch we will publish pricing, payment, refund and access terms and update these Terms. Organisations can arrange paid training directly with us under a separate agreement in the meantime.
Security service engagements
Cybersecurity audits, penetration tests, corporate training and other professional services are provided only under a separate written agreement – typically a signed proposal or statement of work, rules of engagement and a non-disclosure agreement. That agreement sets out the scope, authorisation, deliverables, fees, confidentiality and liability for the engagement and prevails over these Terms for it.
Submitting an inquiry through our website does not create an engagement or authorise any testing. Information on our service pages – including typical timelines – is general and is confirmed in each written proposal.
Third-party services and links
The Platform relies on third-party providers (such as hosting, content delivery, email and AI providers, as described in our Privacy Policy) and may link to external websites and resources. We are not responsible for third-party websites or content we do not control, and linking does not imply endorsement.
Availability and changes to the Platform
We work to keep the Platform available and secure, but we do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may carry out maintenance, change features or suspend parts of the Platform where reasonably necessary, including to protect its security.
Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Platform, its content and the AI tutor are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement. Completing our courses does not guarantee employment, certification by any other body or any particular security outcome.
Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be excluded.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- CyberX8T is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of profits, revenue, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the Platform;
- CyberX8T is not liable for any loss or damage resulting from your use of course techniques or tutor answers, and in particular from any activity carried out without proper authorisation; and
- our total liability to you for any claim relating to the Platform is limited to the amount you paid us for Platform access in the 12 months before the claim arose (or, if you paid nothing, a nominal amount).
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law. Liability for professional services is governed by the relevant engagement agreement.
Indemnity
You agree to indemnify CyberX8T against claims, losses and reasonable costs arising from your breach of these Terms – including any unauthorised use of techniques learned on the Platform – or from content you submit.
Suspension and termination
You can stop using the Platform at any time and ask us to close your account by emailing hello@cyberx8t.com.
We may suspend or close an account, with notice where reasonable, if you seriously or repeatedly breach these Terms, if we must do so by law, or to protect the Platform, other users or third parties. On closure your licence to course content ends; how we handle your data afterwards is described in our Privacy Policy. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (such as intellectual property, disclaimers, liability and governing law) continue to apply.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Uganda. If a dispute arises, please contact us first – we will try in good faith to resolve it informally within 30 days. If that is not possible, either party may refer the dispute to mediation or to the competent courts of Uganda, which have jurisdiction over any dispute relating to these Terms.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms when the Platform, our services or the law change – for example when payments launch. We will update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, give registered users reasonable notice by email or in the Platform. If you continue to use the Platform after changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms.
